Our first week in the Abacos

Hello again.....

Now that our vessel is in the water, and somewhat organized below decks, dinghy in the water, we are once again getting familiar with our surroundings. Not much has changed since last year when we spent a month in this area.

We are at the Leeward Yacht Club till the New Year in Black Sound.  Coco Bay and Ocean Beach/Long bay  are my favorite beaches on Green Turtle Cay.  I have already been on the hunt for sea beans and have found a few!

Some reefs here are close to shore at low tide....on Ocean Beach

This beach is on the Sea of Abaco side......

After a short dinghy ride across black sound we are off to do our errands!

It's just a short walk into town from where we docked the dinghy

Pictures I took while walking into town

We checked into custom. It cost 300.00 for 3 months plus we can get an extension should we want to stay longer. In our case though, since Miss Ellie was already in the Bahamas, and had not left the country, we had to pay 500.00. (Funny rules) Boaters are allowed to keep their vessels here for 3 years. After that, you must pay taxes on the value of your boat!

After checking into customs we head down the street to provision at Sid's grocery store. Scott and Martha the owners are very helpful.

After provisioning , we have to make a stop at the bank down the street. They only take cash when you check in at customs, so the 500.00 fee took up most of our cash. This bank is only open on Thursdays from 10:00 till 2:00 ....and since xmas and New year are on a Thursday, it will not be open again till Jan 8th.....

After all our errands are done, we head to the beach for some R&R...

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas......
